Mr. Derrell Roberts (’81) – CEO/Co-Founder Roberts Family Development Center was presented with the Harmon Wilkinson Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences at Wilkinson College’s 2017 Commencement.

ABOUT THE THE WINNER:
In 2001 Derrell Roberts ’81 and wife, Tina, co-founded the Roberts Family Development Center
(RFDC) located in North Sacramento. The Center employs 90 and serves more than 600 children and
families daily across six sites. RFDC sites provide after school programs, health and wellness activities,
and summer Freedom School in partnership with the Children Defense Fund.
Mr. Roberts has received numerous honors including the Sac Metro Chamber’s Al Geiger Award in
January 2009. The Al Geiger Award is presented to a leader who has shown exemplary leadership
in economically challenged communities within the region. The center has also been awarded the
Congressman Robert T. Matsui Community Service Award, the Bank of America Community Partner
of the Year Award and the FBI’s Directors Award.

Mr. Roberts received his undergraduate degree from Chapman University where he was a two term
student body President and won the Cheverton Award. He attended graduate school at USC’s School of Governmental Management.
