On Friday, January 10th, two Wilkinson College students, senior Bria Holt (Creative Writing) and first-year, first-gen Joselyn Perez-Rivera (Political Science), attended the OC Literary Society Luncheon with Casey Cep, author of Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee.

Wilkinson helps sponsor the OC Literary Society Collaborative, directed by Professor Jan Osborn, Department of English. The collaborative provides students from Chapman University and three area community colleges – Citrus, Santa Ana, and Santiago Canyon – an opportunity to work together to explore contemporary literature and meet the authors to discuss their work in an intimate and interactive setting at the Orange County Literary Society luncheons, held six times each year.

Joselyn Perez-Rivera joins community college students Jajaira Larios and Eduardo Flores in getting their copy of Furious Hours signed by the author, Casey Cep

The OC Literary Society (sponsored by Northern Trust) has hosted over one hundred authors since its inception in 1994, most recently including Amy Stewart (Kopp Sisters on the March), Tara Conklin (The Last Romantics: A Novel), and Ciji Ware (Landing by Moonlight: A Novel of WW II). Students not only receive seats at the luncheon, but also a copy of the book, transportation to and from The Pacific Club in Newport Beach where the luncheon is held, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and discus the book with the author themselves prior to the luncheon.
