New “Women Authors Across Genres” Exhibit Opens in Leatherby Libraries
January 22, 2015
The Frank Mt. Pleasant Library of Special Collections & Archives on the fourth floor of the Leatherby Libraries has a new special exhibit called “Women Authors Across Genres.” The exhibit will run until the end of February.
The new showcase will highlight and recognize some of the greatest female writers spanning different genres and centuries. Represented authors include Gertrude Stein, Louisa May Alcott, Beatrix Potter, Emma Goldman, Emily Dickinson, Virginia Woolf, Edith Head and Jane Austen. One of the highlights of the exhibit, according to Rand Boyd, Coordinator of Special Collections & Archives, is the first American edition of Austen’s Sense and Sensibility (1833). It covers diverse genres such as fiction, poetry, folklore, autobiographies, philosophy and artists’ books. All displayed materials come directly from Special Collections.
