The John Fowles Center for Creative Writing promotes and advances the discipline of creative writing in all its aspects: fiction, poetry, drama, creative nonfiction and screenwriting. For fourteen years the center has invited international writers to Chapman as: Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, Salman Rushdie, Maxine Hong Kingston among others. Giuseppe Conte studied at the University of Milan earning a degree in literature in 1968. His poetry books include L’Ultimo aprile bianco (The Last White April) and L’Oceano e il Ragazzo, Le stagioni, (The Seasons) won the Montale Prize.
