Professor, Justin Walsh, has been invited to give a talk to the Los Angeles local society of the Archaeological Institute of America titled “Identities Erased: The Mixed Settlements at Morgantina, Sicily, in the Fifth Century B.C.E.” The subject of his talk will be his research over the last decade at the site, particularly focusing on the foundation of the second settlement at the site following the destruction of the first one in a war between colonizing Greeks and indigenous Sikels in 459 BCE. Walsh’s work has tried to understand both the date of the new foundation and the identity of the city’s founders from the archaeological evidence excavated by the American expedition to the site since 1955.

His presentation will take place in the historic Wellington Morse House and Garden in Pasadena on February 25 at 4pm. If you’re interested in attending please RSVP to Deana Hight (deanahight@sbcglobal.net<mailto:deanahight@sbcglobal.net>) to receive directions.
