Flyer for Dr. Alan Gilbert lecture
Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences
and the
Department of Political Science
invites you to a lecture and book-signing with guest speaker Dr. Alan Gilbert, “Racism during the American Revolution and Racism Today” on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 7 p.m. in Sandhu Conference Center D and D1.

Alan Gilbert is a John Evans Professor in the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. He is the author of Marx’s Politics: Communists and Citizens, Democratic Individuality, and Must Global Politics Constrain Democracy? In Black Patriots and Loyalists, Alan Gilbert forces us to completely rethink what we know about the Revolutionary War, to realize that while white Americans were fighting for their freedom, black Americans were joining the British imperial forces in hopes of gaining theirs. There were actually two wars being waged at once: a political revolution for independence
from Britain and a social revolution for emancipation and equality.

This event is sponsored by The Peace Studies Program, Political Science and The Department of History.
