Call This Number: A Play About What Murder Leaves Behind
January 10, 2014
Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences presents the world premiere,
Call this Number
, an original play based on interviews with more than 50 family members of murder victims, Thursday, January 30, 2014 – Saturday, February 1, 2014 in Chapman Auditorium Theatre, Memorial Hall.
Performances are free and will begin each night at 8 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2 p.m.
About the Play:
Those left behind by homicide not only grieve but search for justice in a system that is designed to punish the guilty, not aid the victims — a system that often treats these secondary victims as afterthoughts. In this performance, their stories and their interactions with the criminal justice system are shared with the hope that others may learn how to help these families cope with their loss.
The play is authored by Chapman University student Noreen Raja and Chapman faculty
Michelle Miller-Day
and
Edward Day
. It is based on research conducted by Dr. Day. The production is under the direction of Jed Alexander, a Los Angeles based actor and director. The set is designed by Vonzell Scott with set materials donated by the South Coast Repertory Theatre.
