Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences presents, Peking Opera – the Quintessential Chinese Art of Singing, Dancing and Martial Art with guest performer, Madame Ping Sun, on Thursday, February 5, 2015 in Memorial Hall, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Mrs. Ping Sun is Director of Center of National Drama Studies of Renmin University of China, and Dean of Research Institute of Arts, at Beijing Foreign Studies University. She graduated and received her BA from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in July1982. She worked in the National Peking Opera Company from September 1982 to December 2012 and has been serving as Director of the Center of National Drama Studies of Renmin University of China since January 2007. From 1991 to 1999, she acted as the guest director of Petofi Theater Theatre. Then she served as the Special Advisor for Eastern & Western Music in the National Symphony Orchestra in 1999. For her contributions to Peking Opera and cultural exchanges, she was awarded the title of the National ―March 8th‖ Red-Banner holder, the honorary citizen of Hungary, and was granted the United States Presidential Award. Her main research areas are the theory of acting and directing in Peking Opera.
