Timing is Everything with Art History Professor Justin Walsh

Assistant Art History Professor Justin Walsh has been invited to participate in a public program as part of the exhibition
Timing is Everything
at the University Art Gallery at UC San Diego, from October 3 through December 6, 2013.

Over the course of eight weeks, an exhibition of moving image installations by four artists (Chuck Miller, Uriel Orlow, Cauleen Smith, and Hong-An Truong & Dwayne Dixon) will rotate in and out of the gallery as interlocutors in conversation with another exhibition of lens-, time-, and text-based objects.
The Exhibition of a Necessary Incompleteness
by Joseph Redwood-Martinez acts as a constant spatial and conceptual perimeter, while every two weeks one artist’s installation of moving image work will premiere and be centrally presented in the gallery.

With each premiere of a new moving image installation, the gallery is organizing a public reception and program with interlocutors beyond the exhibiting artists to open up new readings of the work as well as to bring in other topical discussions from their own practice. Professor Walsh will act as an interlocutor for the premiere of
Remnants of the Future / Plans for the Past
(2010-12) and related program for the artist Uriel Orlow on November 15, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The other interlocutor for this event will be the avant-garde French film director (and UCSD professor) Jean-Pierre Gorin, who was a collaborator with Jean-Luc Godard and studied with Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan in the 1960’s.
